Central Illinois Regional Airport Receives $3.3 Million from Rebuild Illinois

Capital Funds will be used to Rehabilitate and Improve Airport Roadways


Bloomington, Ill.  –  Central Illinois Regional Airport at Bloomington-Normal is the recipient of $3,342,600 in funding from the Rebuild Illinois Airport Capital Improvement Program. The award will provide 90% of the funding for an estimated $3,714,000 project to rehabilitate the airport’s main entrance and circular road system.  The Bloomington Normal Airport Authority will fund the 10% balance of the project.

“The newly approved Rebuild Illinois project at CIRA is a key facet of the airport’s infrastructure.  The Bloomington Normal Airport Authority is very grateful that Governor Pritzker authorized funding for this construction and appreciates the General Assembly’s recognition of  the importance of air service across the state,” said Alan Sender, chairman of the Bloomington Normal Airport Authority. “Our roads are the welcome mat to our facility for the tens of thousands of passengers and guests we host each month at Central Illinois Regional Airport. This funding  will allow the Airport Authority to complete the rehabilitation and repair of these roads expeditiously and cost effectively.”

Central Illinois Regional Airport, located on Route 9 East in Bloomington, offers air service on Allegiant, American, Delta and Frontier with nonstop flights to ten destinations and connections to hundreds of destinations throughout the world. FedEx also operates a daily air cargo operation. As an economic driver in the region, CIRA supports hundreds of jobs and economic activity contributing to the local/state economy and quality of life.
