About the Airport

CIRA is an airport and that can mean different things to different people, some of which you may not know. A public facility and its own municipality, Central Illinois Regional Airport is governed by its legal entity, the Central Illinois Regional Airport Authority (CIRAA). Comprised of seven locally-appointed members, the Central Illinois Regional Airport Authority’s Board of Commissioners meets monthly to determine policy, approve projects and expenditures and help shape the vision for CIRA’s future.

The Executive Director and Staff manage the day-to-day operations at CIRA regarding the safety, security, maintenance, Federal and State of Illinois regulations/procedures and airport tenants and property.

There’s a lot that happens behind the scenes at CIRA, and the airport is comprised of many moving parts. For example:

1. Over 700 acres of CIRA’s property are leased for farming.
2. The Airport Authority was formed in 1964 with a property tax rate of 4 cents per $100 valuation that has never been increased.
3. The airlines, car rentals, TSA and concessionaires are all tenants in our terminal facility.
4. The Airport leases close to ninety hangars of various sizes to private aircraft owners.
5. There are over 70 miles of pavement on the airfield side alone that must be maintained to FAA standards 365 days per year 24/7.
