Current Information and Resources regarding COVID-19 Impact at CIRA

The Central Illinois Regional Airport remains open and operating but airline flight schedules may continue to fluctuate.  Cancellations are happening with all four airlines sporadically. If you are scheduled for a flight, please be sure to check with your airline directly online or through their individual reservations/customer service numbers to confirm your flight or to cancel or amend your reservations.  Allegiant and Frontier personnel at the Central Illinois Regional Airport cannot currently assist with changes or reservations.

May 4, 2020

Airline schedules for May 2020 seem to have stabilized at the Central Illinois Regional Airport.  You can find a published flight schedule here – May 2020 Flight Guide.

Frontier Airlines’ seasonal nonstop service to/from Denver returns today to Central Illinois Regional Airport.  The flight will operate on Monday and Friday throughout May, except 5/22 and 5/29.

Tailwind Concessions has reopened the Route 66 Gift Shop on the second level of the terminal building in the gate area between Gate 5 and Gate 9.  Grab and go sandwiches, baked goods and coffee are now available during current flight times.  Cloth masks are also available for purchase.



Update: March 23, 2020

The Central Illinois Regional Airport remains open and operating with some modifications in non-essential staff and personnel.  All safety and security requirements remain and are being met at the highest level.

There have been cancellations to flights scheduled for tomorrow – 3/24/20 for Allegiant and Frontier.  Please contact the airlines directly through one of the methods listed below for further information.

Effective 3/23/20 at 3:00 p.m.   The Jetstream Restaurant and Route 66 Gift Shop will be closed through April 7, 2020.  Travelers departing from Central Illinois Regional Airport will not be able to purchase food and beverages past the security checkpoint and should plan accordingly prior to arriving at the airport.  A water drinking fountain is located on the second level of the gate area across from Gate 5.

Update: March 21, 2020

All airport businesses and airport operations are exempt from closing as they are considered part of the essential infrastructure per the Governor’s Executive Order 2020-10.  As such, we are open and operating to serve those with essential travel needs.  Please contact the airlines and car rentals directly for specific information; to cancel, reschedule or amend your reservations; and to provide them directly with contact information for further communication. As of Sunday, March 22, 2020, the Parking Lot Shuttle Bus will suspend operations until further notice.


The Central Illinois Regional Airport is closely monitoring developments related to COVID-19 and will continue working with local, state and federal partners as guidance evolves.

We are also taking the following actions and sharing the following recommendations and information:

  • The airport terminal building is cleaned regularly and thoroughly every day. Currently, our custodial staff is taking extra time to sanitize more areas and utilizing new disinfecting spray materials, specifically on and around those areas that are touched by terminal users (tables, chairs, stair handrails).
  • The parking shuttle bus is receiving additional enhanced cleaning inside the bus.
  • Hand sanitizers and wipes are available on stands throughout the terminal for use by everyone in the building for hand disinfecting and to wipe down luggage and other surfaces. Locations can be found on our terminal maps designated in light blue.
  • Signage to remind all terminal users to wash hands for twenty seconds has been placed in all restrooms and incorporated into in-terminal signage.


Food and Beverages at Central Illinois Regional Airport

Effective Tuesday, March 17, food and beverages will be available past the security checkpoint at both the Jetstream Burger Bar and the Route 66 Gift Shop at the Central Illinois Regional Airport during normal business operating hours.  The pre-security restaurant, Turbo Grill, will be closed until further notice.   Vending machines are located in the baggage claim area for guests, passengers, employees and visitors.

Please be aware of and follow the latest CDC guidelines for staying healthy, applicable for everyday life and travel.  These include the following:

  • Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Clean frequently touched surfaces and objects daily.

Our primary concern is for the health and welfare of all passengers, guests, airport employees and visitors at Central Illinois Regional Airport.  We will continue to monitor and proactively address this situation as new information is forthcoming while also publicly communicating any new actions or related activities as quickly as possible.
