Congressman LaHood Assists CIRA with Acquisition of Funds for Snow Equipment
The Central Illinois Regional Airport at Bloomington-Normal (BMI) is pleased to announce that, through the support of Congressman Darin LaHood, it will be receiving a $891,915.00 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration. This grant will be used for the purchase of two high speed rotary plows to serve as snow removal equipment during winter operations.
Congressman Darin LaHood (R-IL 18th District) reiterated the need for these funds. “This is all about passenger safety. Transportation is a vital industry to Bloomington-Normal as well as the entire 18th District. However, without safe transportation the entire community suffers, which is why I was happy to be a strong advocate for the Central Illinois Regional Airport in their grant request to the Federal Aviation Administration. The funding awarded will assist the airport to continue more effective and efficient operations on the ground, while most importantly, increasing safety for aircraft and passengers as they arrive and depart Bloomington-Normal,” stated Representative LaHood.
Central Illinois Regional Airport offers daily airline service on Allegiant, American and Delta connecting travelers to the world for business and leisure travel. FedEx operates its central Illinois regional sorting and distribution facility from CIRA with daily Boeing 757 aircraft operations. Corporate aircraft and general aviation aircraft also rely on the facility for business and recreational use.
“The Airport Authority is grateful to Congressman LaHood for his assistance with this grant award,” said David Colee, Chairman of the Bloomington-Normal Airport Authority. “Priority one for the Central Illinois Regional Airport is a safe and efficient operation for all airport users and these new plows will provide additional much-needed resources for keeping our runways, taxiways and ramps clear of snow during winter operations.”
